From 10th till 16th of September 2017 oil and gas majoring students of 39 universities from 30 countries gathered at Gubkin University for the second annual forum “New Generation: Across the Universe”. Organizers of the event were Gubkin University SPE Student Chapter and the United Counsil of Students.
Plenary session was opened by the Rector of Gubkin University, Viktor Martynov. He noted that “the modern petroleum industry is an advanced innovative structure, at which knowledge and skills are very important aspects. Young generation of petroleum engineers have to face the issues of hard recoverable reserves and hydrocarbon production on the continental shelf. The goal of the Forum is to gather the best oil and gas majoring students of universities from all over the world in order to create a solid platform for exchange of ideas and experience”.
The presidium of the plenary session consisted of Gubkin University Rector, Viktor Martynov, Vice Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation, Kirill Molodtsov, Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia, Terzic Slavenko, and CEO of Gazprom Personal, Anton Malyushitskiy.
The program of the Forum continued with the panel session, at which the speakers were Vice President of World Petroleum Council, Anatoliy Zolotukhin, Manager for Science and Collaboration with Universities of the Scientific and Technological Center of NIS Gazprom Neft (Serbia), Marko Vanic, and Russian and Caspian Regional Director of SPE, Anton Ablaev.
In the end of the session Anatoliy Zolotukhin gave the following advice to future petroleum engineers: “Do not attempt to work at the best company of the world. Find the company which is the best for you, and feel that you are doing something actually important for our society.
Also there was a plenary session “Energy Transformation: the Map of the Future”. The speakers of the session were Director of Energy Center of Skolkovo, Tatiana Mitrova, Vice President of World Petroleum Council, Anatoliy Zolotukhin, Manager for Science and Collaboration with Universities of the Scientific and Technological Center NIS Gazprom Neft (Serbia), Marko Vanic, and Associate Professor of the Department of Gas and Condensate Reservoir Engineering of Gubkin University, Maria Khaidina. Special attention was paid to development of alternative energy – the speakers emphasized the importance of improving interaction between new energy sources and petroleum industry.
The next event was the tour “Oil and Gas Technological Chain”. Visiting various departments of the university, the participants could follow the entire technological process: from petroleum production to distribution of oil products. The first day of the Forum ended with the Gala Dinner, which included amazing performances, prepared by the members of the Unity of Creative Students.
On the second day of the Forum the plenary session “Smart Petroleum Industry” was held. The Expert of Energy Center of Skolkovo, Yekaterina Grushevenko, Executive Vice President of “NewTech Services”, Valeriy Bessel, and Vice President of World Petroleum Council, Anatoliy Zolotukhin, told the participants about perspectives of “digital” future of the industry.
On the plenary session “HR Time – the Honest Talk” the speakers were Associate Professor of the Department of Gas and Condensate Reservoir Engineering of Gubkin University, Maria Khaidina, and Student Programs Coordinator of SPE Moscow Section, Vlada Streletskaya. Also the Career Pathways Fair was held in the framework of the Forum. The second day ended with the Russian fair and the degustation of various dishes at the “Russian People Cuisines” Festival.
The last two days of the Forum were spent at the university camp “Zaluchye”. On the meeting of the International Coordinating Council, which was formed as a result of the first Forum in 2016, there were discussed issues of quality of education, collaboration of universities with petroleum companies, as well as internationalization of the education system.
