Regional SPE Student Summit

On 1st till 3rd of November, 2016 the Regional SPE Student Summit was held in Kazakhstan (Astana). The summit took place at the Nazarbaev University and brought together the representatives of SPE Student Chapter from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Russia. Gubkin University SPE Student Chapter was represented by the Head of the Chapter’s Human Resources Committee, Letkova Polina.

Participants of the Summit discussed current situation in the petroleum industry, and suggested the ways to overcome the crisis. In addition to lectures by specialists of the industry, the students worked on joint projects, which they presented in the end. All of participants were grouped into teams in such way, that each team included students from different countries and different specialties. Their task was to prepare a project, minimizing costs of a stage of work of an oil or gas company. The presentation of team projects, as well as the other events of the Summit, was held in English, before an expert commission. On the final day the participants of the Summit visited the SPE Caspian Technical Conference and Exhibition – visited several technical sessions and the Closing Ceremony.

Many lectures, discussions between participants and direct communication with the experts from the petroleum industry gave a unique opportunity to all participants of the Summit to increase their knowledge and to get one step closer to their goal – becoming a world-class expert.

Regional SPE Student Summit is becoming a unique platform for exchanging experience and strengthening cooperation among SPE Student Chapters in the region and oil and gas universities in general.
